January 28, 2025, CURED, Inc member Linda Gillon served as a guest reader for first graders at Broward Elementary School during the school’s annual celebration of Literacy Week.  I was warmly and enthusiastically greeted by Media Specialist Mrs. Odu in the Media Center.  Seven first graders soon arrived accompanied by their teacher, Dr Nilsa Lucas and intern, Hailey Wolfe.  They all gave me their full attention and became fully engaged in the three stories I had selected.  I read to them Snowy Day—Ezra Jack Keats; Saturday—Oge Mora; Caterpillar Spring, Butterfly Summer—Susan Hood.  Three more students joined us a bit later to complete my visit.  Before leaving, Mrs. Odu presented me with a certificate thanking me for demonstrating how “Literacy Builds Community” and for being a community partner.
